The show moves the setting to the present day
Plot
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by carrying out assassinations for the highest fee. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who pursues him in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “Day of the Jackal” was set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on the then President of France, Charles de Gaulle.
The budget was definitely there
A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973). If you’re going to title a series with “Jackal” then you also have to provide some grit and quality. That’s the case here for the first 20 minutes, but then (as is often the case) it goes downhill.
The set design is good
The camerawork is okay, not too much artificial judder, but plenty of blur. But the script is bad, often just plain stupid. A “Jackal” is a must.
Not worth caring about
It’s simply not meant to be seen here, they should have called it “The Day of the Auto-Bomber.” On to the actors: Eddie Redmayne does a serviceable job, but Lashana Lynch was pretty much the biggest casting mistake I’ve seen this year.
