After years of not being in touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation
Plot
Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth, when they worked together on the same magazine. When Pedro Almodóvar sent the script to Tilda Swinton, he asked her who should play Ingrid.
They both had Julianne Moore in mind
Featured in The 7PM Project: Episode 8 September 2024 (2024). Despite its serious theme (Euthanasia), the film is extremely boring, disconnected and not emotionally engaging at all.
The character played by Turturro is flat and uninteresting
I wonder how it could win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The interconnected stories simply don’t make any sense (see the interpolation of gay Carmelite monks).
Come on, Pedro, you can do better than this
The script reads like political propaganda and doesn’t come from the heart. I’m not entirely sure Tilda Swinton was the best choice for this role, but since The Human Voice she seems to appear in all of Almodovar’s English-language mpvi’s.
There have been many films about euthanasia (like Amenabar’s “Mar Adentro”) that are certainly more noteworthy than this frankly mediocre sample
