The music always has the right mood, never too intrusive, never too quiet
‘Breaking Bad’ is one of the most popular shows on IMDb, one of those rarities where every season has either been met with very positive reception or almost universally acclaimed by critics, and where all my friends have nothing but great things to say. The memory gripped me so much from the start that I watched the entire show before the end of the week, especially when even watching an episode can be an effort on many shows these days. 'Breaking Bad' had that effect on me, and its reputation as one of the best, most consistently brilliant, and most addictive shows in many years (maybe ever) is more than deserved in my eyes. The weakest season is probably the first season, understandably so, as the first season of any show is where things are still settling down. Basically, everything is remarkably well-founded from the start, but as the writing and characterization get fleshed out, the show reaches even higher levels. Visually, 'Breaking Bad' is one of those shows that is both stylish and beautiful, with cinematic-quality photography and editing that puts many movies to shame these days, where much of what is visually beautiful is also painfully amateurish. ‘Breaking Bad’ is a good example of how any show should have a lot of style, but also a lot of substance.
The direction could not be better
The dialogue is thought-provoking and tense throughout, but at the same time there is a darkly wicked sense of humor and heartbreaking pathos. The stories are texturally rich, intimate, tense and layered, their pace is consistently deliberate but tight. There is nothing bad to say about the acting.
