Plot
Need a lawyer? He’s wrapping up his law practice in Lincoln and is ready to hit the gas. As he travels around Los Angeles, he takes on cases while balancing his personal life, which includes being a father and two ex-wives. The series was originally set with CBS for 2020, but was canceled shortly before the first episode was filmed due to COVID. . It has now been picked up by Netflix for a 10-episode first season based on Mickey Haller’s second book, The Brass Verdict. Mickey Haller has several cars, all with personalized California plates with legal requirements. In California, personalized plates can have a maximum of seven letters/numbers, but all Mickey plates have a minimum of eight.

I liked the movie, but I think I like the series better. You take a decent movie like this and make an adaptation that surpasses it overall is a huge undertaking. No doubt they spent a lot of money on this series. Background, dialogues, story, everything is at the top level. Don’t expect it to be like the movie, because it’s not meant to be, and don’t compare it to the novels (apples to oranges). I haven’t seen the lead actor (Garcia-Rulfo) actually play the lead in anything that I can think of, though he’s appeared in some outstanding films over the past decade. He fits the role perfectly and I believe we are seeing the opportunity he has been waiting for. Surprisingly, he embodies the essence of the lawyer hero that the role demands (as does McConaughey).
It can’t work
I think the success of the series depends only on this factor. Neve Campbell is great as always. The rest of the support is satisfactory, IMO. At least they don’t necessarily detract from the experience. It’s been years since we had great legal series like The Practice (David E. Kelley), Boston Legal (David E. Kelley), Ally McBeal. (David E.
Kelley), The Good Wife (not Kelley), now Attorney Lincoln (David E
Kelley). If it stands the test of time like all of his previous courtroom dramas, it will surpass anything currently on the air (for the genre, of course). In the first 30 minutes I had the same experiences I remember years ago. We used to be able to watch only one episode a week when they were released, but now, in the age of binge-watching, I can do it all in a weekend. I have spent most of my life with all of David E. Kelley’s work/production and I don’t regret a moment of my wasted youth. I just have one question why did they wait so long to produce another big one? Of course, but it is a staple today and whether we like it or not, the organism of the entertainment industry is tied to this “culture”.
Accept it and move on or you’re denying yourself credit, like Lincoln’s lawyer
